Malen, who joined Arsenal in 2015, left in 2017 after being labeled “too fat” by then-head of youth development Andries Jonker. Despite Arsenal’s desire to extend his contract, Malen moved to PSV Eindhoven, where he scored 55 goals in 116 games. He joined Dortmund in 2021 and has since scored 39 goals in 131 appearances. Villa is reportedly offering £16.6m plus add-ons for Malen, who could make his Premier League debut against Arsenal on January 18.
